The Helmholtz Young Investigator Group Interpretation of Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Ray Data Using LHC Measurements

UHECR: Acceleration to >100.000.000 TeV
is active at the intersection of experimental high-energy elementary particle physics and ultra-high energy cosmic ray astroparticle physics.

The group is embedded in the Institute for Nuclear Physics located at the Campus North of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). But we collaborate closely with the CMS group of the Institute for Experimental Nuclear Physics

LHC: Acceleration to 7 TeV
located at the Campus South of KIT. The available scientific knowhow and research infrastructure at KIT are ideal for the purpose of the group. The KIT Center Elementary Particle and Astroparticle Physics (KCETA) is the natural place where the Young Investigator Group is integrated in.

We participate actively in major experimental collaborations with the vision to contribute significantly to the understanding of hadronic interactions at the highest energies and thus also to solve the mystery about the nature and the sources of cosmic rays at ultra-high energies (UHECR).
