Open Positions: Diploma, Bachelor and Master theses, etc. Here we post job opportunities within the Helmholtz Young Investigator Group. All jobs are dealing with aspects related to the physics programme of the group. Please sent full applications to ralf.ulrich@kit.edu. PhD ThesisThis is a very diverse and challenging PhD project. It includes hardware development and improvements of the CASTOR calorimeter as well as the construction and operation of a full cosmic-muon test stand at CERN. The test stands will consits of muon tracking detectors on top and below the CASTOR calorimeter. This setup will be needed to calibrate, study and improve the CASTOR calorimeter during 2013 to be in optimal shape for the data taking at 14TeV center of mass energy at LHC. The successful PhD candidate will take care of the detector during 2013 and then also participate in the data taking and analysis with LHC beam in 2014. will be the most crucial data to analysis withDiploma Thesis and Bachelor/Master ThesisWe offer students the possibility to work on exciting and important physics questions in a young group with excellent supervision. We require that students demonstrated their interest in experimental elementary particle physics or the physics of ultra-high energy cosmic ray interactions during their previous studies. Knowledge of C++, modern data analysis and/or Monte Carlo techniques are necessary. Depending on the expertise and interest of candidates we can offer the following projects:
